Agamograph Art

The last few weeks our class have been tackling a new art project called Agamographs.

What are Agamographs?

An agamograph is a series of images that change at different angles. This work is named after the Israeli sculptor, Yaacov Agam who was born in 1928 and still living today (2017). This artist is known for his optical and kinetic art. To create his agamographs he used “lenticular printing.”

How do you make them?

Firstly, we had to create two different pictures. We decided to use emoji faces because they are very popular at the moment. We traced the 2 pictures we chose onto a new piece of paper. Then we had to create 2 different faces and then we used water colour paints to make them bright and colourful.

Next we had to rule lines on the back of each one to divide the pictures up into strips. We labelled them so we wouldn’t get confused. We then had to cut the pictures into strips.

After this we had to use a plane piece of paper and fold it like we would create a paper fan. This was quite challenging for some of us, but persistence paid off.

Finally we stuck the strips on the folded paper. We needed to alternate the order between each picture for each strip. Check out the end result! They are now displayed outside our classroom. Come and visit and check out the magic of Agamographs!

  5. Dear Mrs Baldwin
I enjoyed how we were doing two different emoji’s and how cool it looked when we all finished. The thing I found most challenging was when I didn’t have a lot of time to do it because I was away so it was hard. The two pictures that I would do would probably be a unicorn with sunnies on and a pastel rainbow unicorn holding a pineapple drink. From Jasmin.

  8. Dear Mrs Baldwin,
What I enjoyed the is the painting part because you got to choose the colours and that was fun.

What I found the most challenging is the gluing part because if you got it wrong you had to peel it off and re stick it.

  9. Dear Mrs Baldwin,

The thing i enjoyed the most about this art piece is the way that if you look at it from different angles it shows different emojis.

I probably found the folding the most challenging because you needed to get it perfect one mistake and it won’t work.

I would use the crying face and the smiley face because its cool with the emotions are the opposite.

  10. Dear Mrs Baldwin,
The best this g about making this artwork was that after we made them they looked so cool and colorful.

The most challenging part about it would have to be when you are cutting the pieces out you could get them mixed up and that’s what happened to some peoples art work.

I would probably use the sad emoji and the angry emoji.

    Regards Chloe.

  11. Dear mrs Baldwin,

My favorite part about the art was probably choosing what emojis we wanted to trace.

It was probably trying to paint the emojis accurately.

Probably the half smile face and the sad one

  12. Dear Miss Baldwin,
What I enjoyed the most about creating the art work was that we got to choose what emoji we got to do and that we got to paint the emojis.

The most challenging part was how we had to stick them on in a perticular order of it won’t work out properly.

The two pictures I would use would be a donut and a gummy bear because they are easy to draw and they taste yummy.

  14. Dear Mrs Baldwin,
I enjoyed tracing the emoji’s because it looked really cool and I also loved the painting because it was really colourful.
I found that tracing the art was challenging because you were standing up and didn’t have anything to lean on.

  16. Dear mrs Baldwin, my favourite part about making the amograph art was probably painting it and the part I found most challenging was the last part when we cut and glue it seemed easy at first but as time went by it got harder and I did not Finnish in-time
If I was to make another amograph the two pictures would be a kitten and a ravenclaw sign (ravenclaw is a group in Harry Potter) they would be my designs
