National Simultaneous Story Time 2015

National Simultaneous Story Time is a yearly event that helps encourage young Australians to read and enjoy books.  Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. It is now into its 15th year.

This year National Simultaneous Story Time was held on Wednesday 27 May at 11am (AEST) and the chosen book was The Brothers Quibble written by Aaron Blabey.

Aaron Blabey is the author of many well-loved, award-winning children’s picture books including Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley, The Ghost of Miss Annabel Spoon and the best-selling Pig the Pug.

We joined with our CAT Buddies from Ms Di’s class to share this book together. We began by listening to a video of Aaron Blabey reading the book.

Next we partnered with our buddies and helped them make a crown like the one in the story. This was a lot of fun and it was wonderful to see all Year 4 students really helping the foundation students decorate and cut out their crown.

At the end the foundation students were able to wear their crowns as we sat and watched the book being read to us again by a different narrator.

Check out the documentary about how Aaron Blabey writes his books and get to know the author!

What did you enjoy the most about National Simultaneous Story Time?

Why do you think it is important to read books with each other?

If you could nominate a picture book to use next year what would it be and why?

  5. Dear miss baldwin,
I think you shod read to each other because when you don’t now a word and someone tells you next time you see that word you shod remember what that person said and say it. It also helps you spell words by sounding the words out. That is why I think we shod read to each other every day.
